12/8/19 – The WTA is in negotiations to open the world’s first computer help-desk staffed by trained homeless people engaged in technology work-based learning.  The program begins by training ten extremely bright homeless people in the skills needed to pass the Comptia A+ exam, hence serve as technology support specialists.  They will then staff the help desk.  Low income DC residents can receive free telephone-based technical support for hardware and software issues with their desktop computer, laptop computer, printer, or network.  In the process, community member who otherwise could not afford technology support will receive free telephone support, and trained homeless people will gain work-based learning experience essential for a career in technology.
