Hackberry leaves are oval, pointed leaves that grow in two rows. It may stand more than 120 feet tall, but typically grows to a height of 30 to 50 feet. The hackberry bark is smooth gray and often has corky warts or ridges. They produce round red or purple berries that ripen in fall and are eaten by squirrels and birds. Grows throughout the Eastern United States as far west as Kansas. The wood of the hackberry is yellowish and can be used for furniture.
