During the summer of 2002 I was able to participate in a project with the WTA. The first week we had taken a 24 mile backpacking trip to gather information about the Elwha Valley within The Olympic National Park. Our information was based upon vegitation and animal life, so we listened for as many diffrent birds, kept our eyes open for animals and looked at all the diffrent plant-life along the trails.

The studies we did were mainly diversity counts among different plants and animals, so we could get an estimation of how many plants/animals were supported by that section of the Elwha.

We hiked every day we were out there and by the time we stoped to camp we were all more than happy to get the packs off our backs. The meals were good and filling after the long days.

I had enjoyed the time I spent out in the Elwha meeting and working with all the new people and just having a good time. I also enjoyed the scenery that I got to experience. The Elwha is a beautiful place.
