Common name: Dolly Varden

Species: Salvelinus Malma Malma

Description: The colors of this fishes are variable with size, adults that live in the sea are dark blue with silvery sides and those living in fresh water are a olive-green to brown. The average length of this fish is 12-18 inches.

Habitat: The Dolly Varden is found in the fresh and salt waters of North America and eastern Asia. This fish do not move out into the open ocean but remain close near the river mouths.

 

Range/migration: Dolly Varden remain in the rivers for several years. Between the ages of two and four years, juvenile fish complete their transformation to adults. The fish then migrate to coastal waters where they spend the summer months.

Food:This fish eat other small fish, fish eggs, invertebrates, and insects.

Reproduction: Spawning may occur from August through late September.

Enemies: Their enemies are people pollute the water by dumping things like chlorinated water, old paint and crankcase oil into rivers, lakes, or any water current.
