The headquarters of the Wilderness Technology Alliance is in the White Center area of Seattle, Washington. We occupy over 5500 square feet of wheelchair-accessible office and warehouse space consisting of executive offices, a conference room, a learge class room, desk space for up to ten volunteers engaged in technology service learning and a large warehouse for storing computers.
The WTA now serves the entire Pacific Northwest region from this location. WTA staff and volunteers as well as AmeriCorps and VISTA members operate a number of progarms including:
- Computer Refurbishing. The Washington Statewide-Hub for quality surplus technology shipments to schools and community organizations.
- Computer Refurbishing. Support international exporting of quality surplus technology to needy Pacific Rim countries to Bridge the Digitial Divide.
- WildTech in Schools. Established WildTech programs in dozens of Washington State Schools, then support the teachers and students in their technology service-learning programs.
- WildTech in Community Based Organizations
- Partnership with the Jubilee Reach Center in Bellevue, WA. Provides a technology access labs, refurbished surplus computers for the needy in the Bellevue area.
- Partnership with the TechReach program, a statewide initiative to train treachers in computer refurbishing and provide surplus technology.
- Teacher Training
- How to acquire and refurbish surplus technology and provide it to low-income families
- How to implement a web development curriculum then have students/volunteers create web sites for local non-profit organizations.
- How to perform technology service-learning in the context of a student or volunteer run company
- WildTech Annual Summit - A three-day conference hosted during the summer in a wilderness retreat center in the Cascade mountains
- Computer Recycling - Coming soon - Schools and community-based organizations can seperate junk computers in recyclable components, then deliver it to the WTA headquarters.
