“The Community Technology Initiative, or CTI, is a student-run enterprise aimed at meeting the needs of Millwood’s technologically disadvantaged citizens while at the same providing RLA students with an opportunity to run their own business with the goal of directing profits towards the continuation of high-impact experiential education and student travel.”
 

 

 
·       Executive Summary
 
The goal of the Community Technology Initiative, or CTI, is three-fold: 
 
STUDENTS
 
1.      From the perspective of our students, the CTI will allow them to gain valuable entrepreneurial experience, engage in meaningful service learning, and generate a real cash-flow that will allow RLA students to continue their of high-impact experiential education and student travel.
 
COMMUNITY
 
2.      From the perspective of the Millwood community, the CTI will provide an opportunity of access to the technologically indigent. For the low price of just $200, community members enrolled in the classes will receive an internet-ready Pentium IV machine, a basic understanding of current software and access to student-provided tech support.

3.      From the perspective of the two charter institutions involved, the CTI will create innumerable opportunities for collaboration as they build towards financial solvency, administrative independence, and sustainability
 
 
 
·   Company Summary/ Products and Services
 
The CIT will acquire re-furbished Pentium IVs from WildTech for the price of 20 machines for $1575.   Following the delivery of the machines, RLA students will teach two-day seminars on a quarterly basis to the technologically indigent in the Millwood Community.   For a cost of $200, payable the RLA ASB Fund, participants will receive training in the following areas in addition to their own Pentium IV, monitor, mouse, and keyboard:
 
o       Setting Up Your Computer
o       Accessing the World Wide Web
o       Setting Up and Composing Email
o       Digital Photography Apps.
o       Microsoft Word
o       Microsoft Power Point
 
In addition to all of the above, RLA students will also provide 90 days worth of free on-site tech support to all participants.
 
All profits will be redirected into the RLA ASB Fund with explicit intent that they be used for continuing RLA’s commitment to high-impact experiential education and student travel.
