 TECHNOLOGY ENTERPRISE SUMMIT
Every Summer Near Leavenworth, WA
All Teachers & Students get a FREE Computer System
The Wilderness Technology Alliance (WTA) is pleased to host an annual student technology enterprise summit.  All food, lodging and course materials are free, covered through grant funding. In addition, all attendees receive a free computer system! Invited are 24 students and teachers from seven to ten high schools and community organizations that want to create or enhance a school-based (or community center based) student-run technology enterprise. These are enterprises where students and volunteers gain work-based learning experiences aligned to curricula by providing valuable technology products and services to their local communities (refurbished computers, software training classes, web sites, eCommerce and more).  Most enterprises generate revenue to self-sustain and grow. Also invited are two students identified by that teacher as future leaders of the enterprise.

The Goals of the Summit are to:

  • Provide leadership skills to two students from each school that are the future leaders of their student-run technology enterprise:
    - By having these students actually lead the conference
    - By training these students
    to lead teambuilding activiites
  • Provide technology skills in areas where students can provide products and services to their community and generate income for their enterprise.  This includes computer refurbishing, electronic commerce and web design using dotnetnuke.
  • To develop or improve the vision and mission of their enterprise, then to create or enhanse its business and marketing plans.
  • To create a demanding, yet rewarding, learning experience that propels the teachers and students to create or advance their student-run technology enterprise.

The program ends with a culminating project of participants creating or enhancing the web site of their enterprise.  To view samples of this work, click on the links below:

In the process, we continue an annual forum to support the
WildTech model:

  • Technology service-learning supported by curricula (A /computer repair, multimedia/Digital Design, etc)
  • Service learning structured as a student-run enterprise that can generate revenue to sustain/grow
  • Past students become tomorrow’s teachers (successful students return to help teach the class)

Thank you to all of the wonderful teachers, students and WildTech staff members that make this an amazing event!
