HOW TO VOLUNTEER

Thank you very much for your interest in volunteering for the WTA. Volunteers play a critical role in our organization, and we could use your help in a wide variety of areas no matter what your skill level is.

Those interested should contact Dan Casey at dcasey@wildtech.org or by telephone at 206-242-9505

Feel free to pass this information on to those who may be interested. Below are potential areas for volunteers to help in:

Franchise Development. The WTA created "WildTech Student Enterprises". We need help in completing and refining the necessary elements for this school-based franchise. It now involves 51 school districts in Washington State and we have received inquiries from the states of Oregon and Florida. Through WildTech, the WTA deploys programs where students refurbish surplus technology and place it into schools and into low income families. Some WildTech schools are already conducting student-led evening software classes for low-income adults. In WildTech's multimedia program, students learn web development and then develop web sites for organizations in their local community.

Business Development. This involves creating and refining materials to teach students how to start a technology enterprise and/or visiting schools to assist them in running their enterprises.

Computer Hardware Technician. Schools need support personnel in their hardware refurbishing efforts.

Multimedia Support. The WTA annually holds a multimedia computer camp for at-risk kids near Mount Rainier. We need volunteers who know Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks. You will work side-by-side with students to create a Wilderness Adventure Experiential Education Website. The WTA provides all food and lodging.

Fund Raising. Help develop annual campaigns and more.

Soliciting Corporate Donations of Surplus Computers. Many corporations do not realize that we re-deploy corporate surplus computers into needy school districts. We need somebody to help us let them know!

Grant Authoring. There are a number of large US Department of Education grants and other grants that must be submitted in the near future.

Web Development. Our web site is growing by leaps and bounds. The WTA needs the help of a part time web developer.

Mountain Guides for 5 day trips during the summer, leading students and teachers. Only mountaineers with Wilderness First Responder or EMT certification AND having experience leading children should apply. The WTA will cover all the food and group gear for the trip.

Accounting Support. School-based enterprises need assistance as well as basic non-profit accounting for the WTA.

Light Filing and Secretarial.
