2008 TECHNOLOGY ENTERPRISE SUMMIT
July 11-13, 2008 - Leavenworth, WA
All Teachers & Students get a FREE Computer System
The Wilderness Technology Alliance (WTA) is pleased to announce its third annual student technology enterprise summit. All food, lodging and course materials are covered through grant funding. In addition, all attendees will receive a free computer system! Invited are high school teachers that would like to create or enhance a school-based student-run technology enterprise. Typically, these are enterprises where students gain work-based learning experiences aligned to curricula by providing valuable technology products and services to their local community (refurbished computers, software training classes, web sites, etc). Most enterprises generate revenue to self-sustain and grow. Also invited are two students identified by that teacher as future leaders of the enterprise. Space is limited to 40 teachers and students.
The Goals of the Summit are to:
· Learn and share best practices of student-run technology enterprises
· Provide leadership skills to your next student CEO (one of the students the teacher should invite)
· Provide teaching skills to your next teacher’s aid (the other student the teacher should invite)
In the process, we will jointly create an annual forum to support the WildTech model:
· Technology service-learning supported by curricula (A /computer repair, multimedia/Digital Design, etc)
· Service learning structured as a student-run enterprise that can generate revenue to sustain/grow
· Past students become tomorrow’s teachers (successful students return to help teach the class)
The teacher attending MUST have been part of a past WildTech program –OR- be the facilitator of your high school’s technology enterprise –OR- desire to start one in the 2008/2009 school year. One student should be identified as the leader of your enterprise during the next school year. The other student should be identified as an intern to help teach a technology class during the next school year.
